The Slow Dance
It has been about a year since I offered an in-person Nia event, and so it is with great enthusiasm and pleasure that I announce this upcoming event!
The Slow Dance: The Influence of Tai Chi in Nia
Join me for an immersive, in-person playshop featuring the latest routine "Mystery"
Focus: Tai Chi, The Slow Dance
Intent: To move systemically, as a tender being, keeping every part of you flowing
Thursday, June 16th
7pm-9pm
Portland New Church, 302 Stevens Avenue, Portland, Maine
What you will learn:
To move while remaining centered and connected to the world through your feet, eyes, breath, and hands
To eliminate unnecessary tension from your body by sensing grace
To gain balance and power when using your feet
To maintain soft vertical alignment
To move and create beauty through how you act in the world
New to Nia? Welcome! New to Tai Chi? Wonderful! A longtime practitioner of one or both practices... then you know: there is always room to grow!
What to expect:
Participants should expect to move for brief periods during the first 30 minutes, then for about an hour to dance the routine. "Mystery" together, closing with opportunities to share, observe, and connect with other participants. All movement levels welcome. All moves can be adapted using the available chairs on site as well.
Wear comfortable clothes, bring water or a water bottle. There is a kitchenette and a bathroom on site. Feel free to bring a yoga mat, cushion, and/or blanket to support your comfort during our time together. Barefoot movement is encouraged but not required.
