Story Sharing
I recently had the pleasure of hosting and performing in an online solo playback performance over Zoom. The theme was “gifts” and I was amazed by all the associations participants brought to begin:
mother nature
non-material, as in health procedures
to be gifted, talented, to have skills, and to give back through your skills and understanding
surprise gifts, innate, not earned
Covid, or how a personal illness can turn into a gift
having power and heat (which many lost during the recent ice storm including me)
having water and food after a strenuous hike
the right tool, the right person to help fix things that break
feedback is a gift
As the show progressed and participants volunteered stories, we heard about:
the gift of the light of the full moon as a sister was in hospice towards the end of her life
the gift of a mentor and friend who changed life for the better
the gift of giving authentic compliments, naming people’s strengths
the gift of a hunting knife from a father who died young to a son when he turned 18, and the subsequent loss of this gift
The evening was filled will heart. I was struck by the variety of stories, the emotion in the tellers’ voice, the appreciation of the playbacks, and how everyone could relate to what was being shared.
Playback offers us the opportunity to listen deeply, to see one another, to make sense of our experience and to learn from our own and others’ stories. We had participants from the US, France and Latvia all in the same virtual room. What a gift!
Join me for my next Solar Playback shows and experience for yourself the magic of playback!
