"Parenthood"

Every First Friday I have the distinct honor of performing as part of the Playback ensemble, The Teller’s Garden, at the Portland Media Center in Portland, Maine. These shows are open to the public and each night is unique. We never know who will be there, who will raise their hand to tell a true story, or what the story will be.

It is truly Life that comes on stage at the Teller’s Garden!

Our job as improvisers is to honor the audience members’ true stories, to highlight the universal, to touch the emotional core of the teller’s experience, to heighten and express the ways in which we all relate to one another’s experiences as humans.

Join us First Friday, March 7th for “Parenthood.” I’ll be conducting the ensemble and would love to see you there and share the joy of playback with you!

WHEN: Friday, March 7th 7-8:30pm Doors open at 6:45pm

Reflection Questions on the theme:

  • What qualities do you associate with your own parents? With parenting in general, or ideally?

  • What has your experience of parenthood been like? With children of your own (biological or adopted), or with caregiving/raising others people’s children, perhaps pets, … or some other expression of parenting?

  • What moment encapsulates a quality that comes to mind?

  • What challenges are unique to parenthood?

  • How has your experience of parenthood evolved with time?

  • What are you celebrating about being a parent or having the parents you have/had?

  • What about grand-parenthood?

  • Step-parenthood?

  • What have you discovered about yourself through parenting another?

  • How have you ‘parented’ yourself?

Come to hear and witness the honoring of others’ stories, or come to share one of your own. All are welcome.
