Is coaching for me?

You may be wondering if coaching is for you, or if coaching is only for ‘other people.’ Please allow me to share some thoughts on this matter in my experience as a professional coach.

Who benefits from coaching?

Coaching is for anyone who wants some support growing towards their higher selves, sometimes called our potential. Coaching focuses on goals that you as the client bring to each session.

What’s that you say? You’re goal-phobic? That’s okay. I have worked with others who claim that trait. As your coach I help you develop self-awareness around your personal strengths and motivation to change. This in turn leads to transforming whatever is not serving your greatest good. Coaching with me is an individualized experience that nurtures your personal and professional growth and helps to spark sustainable change. This is not a process that can be accomplished overnight, or by watching a video, or by reading a book. Coaching demands an investment of time and energy —by both of us— which means you need to be ready to work. I am here to serve as your guide and partner in that process.

What does a Life Coach do exactly?

Life Coaching is an area of coaching, just like career coaching, or wellness coaching, leadership coaching or executive coaching. Life Coaching is the area I specialize in with my core pull to connect my clients to their deepest desires for their lives. To start we take a step back and reflect. I offer an introductory questionnaire to help with this. We then identify what’s important to you and where you are on your life’s path. As a life coach, I work with my clients on different areas: sometimes we focus on relationships, or a particular challenge, personal development, a professional goal, transitions, or even the larger questions of finding purpose and meaning.

My coaching style is centered on catalyzing curiosity (more on this soon in a separate post!) through a variety of tools and techniques. As a trained somatic guide through my work as a Nia Teacher, I invite clients to draw on the wisdom of their bodies for insight and to gain awareness on whatever topic we are exploring. Together we examine language, the power of words to create our reality, as well as our emotions, the messengers of internal states and beliefs. Through an examination of current practices and personal history we also explore what is working and what is not, what limiting beliefs may be lurking just below the conscious surface. I also draw from my 15 years of experience as a professional improvisor, bringing lightness, humor, and fresh perspective to every coaching session.

When is the right time to hire a coach?

My short answer to this is: now. Why? Well, let’s look at your situation from above. You are sitting (or standing or lying down) looking at my blog, reading this post. You’ve been reading it for a few minutes. You are clearly contemplating this work. Perhaps you are asking yourself whether you have the time, the energy, the money to work with me right now… To respond to these concerns, I ask you:

What is the cost of delaying? I mean the real cost: your time, the feeling of dissatisfaction, the nagging sensation or gut feeling that change is needed…

Haven’t you waited long enough?

Coaching invites us to open to the possibilities… Welcome.
